Location: Yellow Hammer & Logging Rd. 449 Time: 2 a.m. Written By: Alex McCann The 2nd night of the Septemeber Tionesta trip we agreed to head to one of our favorite places to squatch, Yellow Hammer. It is a rare night if we don't get some sort of action while in the woods of Yellow Hammer so we were excited. We made the drive to our spot and before we knew it, we were making calls. The first place we tried seemed full of life because as soon as we entered the area a bunch of birds and other animals were awoken. It didn't take long for something to happen. After the first call was made, we were answered with two faint knocks coming from the forest. The member that made the call didn't hear it but the other two who were just listening both reported distinct tree knocks. One of the members present said it was one of the best knocks he had ever heard. We did have our recorder on when the knocks occured, but it's not a very high quality recorder and it is hard to tell if we picked them up or not from a simple playback, but we are in the process of uploading it to our computer program to enhance it and see if we can at least pickup the wavelengths of the knocks if nothing else. We continued to squatch for about another hour in Yellow Hammer and we didn't have anything else significant happen so we decided to head back to camp. However, on the way back to camp we passed logging road #449, a place that we have also had success in the past. It was agreed upon that we give it a try too and it is a good thing that we did because at the very first place we called we were answered by a shriek from way off in the distance! There was no way our recorder would have picked it up because of how far away it was, but it was clear enough to distinguish that it was indeed a shriek. There are some sounds in squatching that are simply just misidentified animals, but we don't know of an animal that makes a sound anywhere close to what we heard this time. It was a great trip overall...and we need a better recorder. Members: Alex, Stan, Evan
